OK, so I went on one of those 'fun' management training courses the other day about improving something or other and was all about buzzwords and 'culture mapping'. Bleh. :(

However, they did have quite a good game. I want you all to try it.

So here's a star with the numbers 1-10 on it. Print it, or draw one out.
Every time you join two numbers together with a line, you get 10 points.
You don't have to join the numbers in numerical order.
Every time the line you draw crosses the black lines of the star shapes, you lose 1 point.
You have one minute to score as many points as possible.

Post your score here. I'll share mine later and if you beat it, you win a prize. :)

Leaderboard
[livejournal.com profile] whotheheckami storms into the lead with 900! Can he be beaten?
[livejournal.com profile] myrddrr has got the hang of it! 2150 to beat!
[livejournal.com profile] azekeil screams into the lead with 12000! (I've screened him for giving away the answer)!
[livejournal.com profile] lucien_dark overtakes with 15680 31360! That's more like it!

10 lines * 10 points, then 5 lines * 10 points - 5 points for crossing star lines (inner), then 5 lines * 10 points - 5 points for crossing star lines (outer), then repeat for 5 outer corners with 3 lines * 10 points - 6 points for crossing 2 star lines with each line

Then I hit the minute limit. So total score of 100 + 45 + 45 + 5*24 = 310.

How'd you do?

there are 10 pink lines, getting me 10 points each = 100
there are 10 green lines getting me 8 points each = 80
there are 4 purple lines from each corner, getting me 5 lots of 4*8 points = 160
there are 5 orange lines, drawing the star pentogram style getting me 8 points each = 40

100+80+160+40=420 and I can't do maths ;)

It all depends on how fast you can draw a line between two points ;@)

380, I reckon. Took longer to add up than to draw!

No, wait, 450 if I use wiggly lines...

Well, the rules don't actually say to only connect two numbers once, so the amount of points you can win is theoretically infinite...

40x10 + 40x-1, then 8x5, so 400, and ran out of time just as things looked like getting complicated.

Theoretical limit is 9x10x10. You'd probably need a big print or a steady hand!

Well okay then, there's no limit other than the width of your pencil and the 60 second cut-off!

Unless you draw one line on top of another, in which case I get.... approximately 9000, but it's tricky to count that fast.

15680, the hardest part is coming up with a decent counting method! I drew a pattern out for it the same size as the one you've got up there - I guess you'd be able to get even more with a smaller one but the counting accuracy would REALLY go out the window...

Ok, 31360. Barring the discovery of some other fantastical method I think that's about as good as I'm going to get...
